A leading engineering team in Ayr is seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer to support site maintenance, equipment efficiency, and operational reliability. This is a permanent, full-time, onsite position working Monday to Friday, 6:00am – 2:30pm (37.5 hours/week).
The successful candidate will join a small, proactive engineering team and be responsible for both planned and reactive maintenance of site machinery and systems, ensuring high performance and minimal downtime across operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform day-to-day mechanical maintenance on production and packaging equipment, HVAC systems, and pumps.
- Participate in improvement projects to enhance process and equipment efficiency.
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and support development of maintenance procedures.
- Conduct first-line fault finding and repairs on air compressors and refrigeration systems.
- Ensure smooth coordination with operational teams to balance maintenance and production needs.
- Maintain buildings and facilities in a safe, serviceable condition.
- Adhere to and promote high standards of health, safety, and cleanliness.
- Complete all required documentation and record-keeping.
- Encourage a proactive maintenance culture and support health and safety compliance.
Requirements
- Time-served, mechanically biased engineer.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
- Self-motivated, calm under pressure, and capable of working independently or as part of a team.
- Physically capable of hands-on work, including manual dexterity in confined or awkward spaces.
- Willingness to be flexible with working hours to maintain operational continuity.
Desirable Skills and Qualifications
- HNC or equivalent qualification in an engineering discipline.
- IOSH health and safety certification.
- Multiskilled, with the ability to perform basic electrical fault-finding and repairs.
- Welding and fabrication skills.
- Experience with PLCs and inverter-controlled systems.
- Knowledge of health and safety practices such as LOLER and LOTOTO.
Salary Starting from £35,000 per annum, depending on experience
